Casa 579 ... Casa 579 was the best hostel I stayed at while in Brazil. The staff was outgoing, kind, and extremely helpful. Rooms and bathroom were immaculate, and breakfast was terrific. The views from the terrace were amazing: The Corcovado, Sugarloaf mountain, Urca, ...

Description - Bed and breakfast

Casa 579 is a colonial house located in Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro. With an amazing roof terrace with 180 degree views of Rio de Janeiro, the "Cristo Redentor", Sugar Loaf Mountain and Guanabara Bay and our knowledge and links to the local community, Casa 579 is a unique opportunity to discover a genuine Rio de Janeiro.

The house has been the site of fashion shoots and TV documentaries thanks to the stunning views from the panoramic roof terrace.

Casa 579, supports local community projects such as the educational “Julio Otoni” project located in the same street as the house. By staying at Casa 579 you too are also supporting the local community.

Among the come-again guests to Casa 579; a family of monkeys and a toucan, staying in the trees visible from the breakfast area!

Lapa, famous for its Samba clubs and home to Rio's nightlife and the downtown business district are within a 10 minute drive, either by bus, taxi or tram ride away and the famous sights of Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain and the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema are just 15 minutes away. Transport stops right outside the house to take you to all the places you need to go (bus, tram or kombi).

Santa Teresa is a unique part of Rio. With its cobbled streets, colonial mansions and the old fashioned Bonde tram, it appears to have stopped in time. It has a fantastic mix of architecture and lots of lush vegetation. With museums, great restaurants and local bars full of character, atmosphere and plenty of live music, it is also just minutes from the city centre and Lapa, the famous Rio nightlife and home of artists, writers and creative types since as long ago as the 19th century, it was also home to many Rio luminaries, including the men behind the first railway in Brazil and the Christ the Redeemer statue itself. It is also less segregated than other parts of Rio, with rich and poor living in closer proximity and more harmoniously than other areas of Rio. Nowadays, Santa Teresa is Brazils first environmentally protected urban area. It is also a designated sustainable tourism area, with tourism activities focused upon preserving the beautiful natural and historical environment and promoting socio-economic equality. The Yellow Bonde (Tram) that runs between Santa Teresa and the city centre, originally horse drawn in the 19th Century, is now the only remaining tram network in South America, and still an integral mode of transport for the local community.
