Description - Hostel

Hotel Residencia Offenbacher-Hof is situated in an old house dating to 1905, which has been declared of architectural heritage value. The house has been lovingly restored to its former style, both in terms of structure and furnishings.
The hotel is situated in one of the most beautiful and typical parts of Viña del Mar, also known as “the garden city”. This is a family hotel, attracting tourists both from within Chile and from overseas. In addition to our privileged location, close to the city centre and with a beautiful view over Viña, we offer a pleasant family atmosphere, making you feel at home.
Perhaps one of the key characteristics of this attractive meeting place is our promotion of cultural tourism. In addition to introducing our visitors to typical parts of our region, we try to give an insight into Chilean people and traditions. We have designed a range of tours, particularly with international tourists in mind, so that during their stay with us, they can get a feel for the region and for Chile in general.

We will go see Pablo Neruda´s (Chile´s Nobel Laureate in Literature) house, climb up the staircases and little streets of the Open Sky Museum (Museo al Cielo Abierto), visit the neighborhoods created by the English and German immigrants, enjoy beautiful views of the bay from the many outlooks and go down the hills to the old part of the city using the legendary elevators of Valparaíso.

Neighborhood

Around Cerro Castillo:
This is a small residential district built on a hill and has a number of beautiful large houses. In the street Vista Hermosa, there is a viewpoint of the same name, from where you can see a large part of the city. One of the buildings in this area is Castillo Brunet, built in a medieval style reminiscent of the romantic-gothic period in France. In 1974, this building passed into the hands of the Chilean police, Carabineros de Chile and was renamed Palacio de Carabineros. It is used as building for ceremonies and as the offical residence for important visitors. It can only be visited by prior arrangement with the administration.

The Palacio Presidencial is also to be found on Cerro Castillo. It was inaugurated in 1930 and was built as the summer palace for the presidents of Chile. It is an attractive and sober building with a spectacular view to the south of the Pacific. It opens its doors to the public on the last Sunday in May, National Heritage day.

Cerro Castillo is also home to one of the most popular attractions of the garden city of Viña - the internationally famous flower clock, unveiled in 1962. It has become a must to take a photo of yourself in this place if you want to return to Viña del Mar – “you must take a photo of yourself at the flower clock and you will soon return”. Here you can also find horse-drawn carriages called Victoria coaches, which are another tourist tradition of the city. A trip in one of these carriages will give you a flavour of what it was like in the past when these were the only form of transport.

How to get there

Balmaceda 102 Cerro Castillo its on a little hill at the end of the Valparaiso aveniu, pricipal street of the city center.

HOW TO GET THERE
In Santiago, the capital of Chile, one can board buses for Viña del Mar in the Alameda terminus, on the avenue by the same name. They leave every 15 minutes and the cost of the ticket is 2, 500 pesos (3 to 4 dollars).

The bus trip lasts an hour and a half approximately. The road is a splendid one offering pleasant views of mountains and vineyards.

To travel from Valparaiso to Viña del Mar, a distance of 9 kilometers, one can choose the train. Trains leave every 15 minutes, from 6 a. m. to 10 p. m. The station in Viña del Mar is located on Francisco Vergara street.
